OpenAI has globally launched two new features that expand ChatGPT’s e-commerce and retail shopping experience. Users can now view clothing and accessories on their own photos using an AI-powered virtual try-on feature, while products they like can be saved with the “Favorites” feature for later review.
Clothes Can Be Tried On Before Purchase with ChatGPT
In the new system, a “Try on” button appears next to supported clothing and accessories. When users upload a selfie or a full-body photo, the AI generates a new image showing how the selected product might look on the person. For products that do not appear in shopping results, users can also upload product images or screenshots taken from the internet to use the virtual try-on feature.
The feature uses OpenAI’s ChatGPT Images 2.5 technology. According to the company, the new image model provides more natural lighting, richer textures, higher editing accuracy, and faster image generation. Photos used as references can be reused in later try-ons, and users can change or delete these photos from the settings section.
Product Discovery and Favorites Come Together on the Same Platform in E-Commerce
With the update, the “Favorites” feature has also been added to ChatGPT. Users can save products they encounter while shopping online within the ChatGPT Library and organise them by creating folders. The ability to store virtual try-on images and favourite products in the same environment brings product discovery and comparison processes together on a single platform.
OpenAI also states that users can describe a style they want and ask the AI to find products that can create that look. Users can also upload a photo of an outfit and request similar or purchasable products to be found. In this way, the system brings product search, comparison, visual try-on, and saving processes together within the same e-commerce experience.
Virtual Try-On in Retail Does Not Guarantee Actual Size or Fit
OpenAI’s shopping features are available on both mobile and web versions. However, according to the company’s support documentation, AI-generated virtual try-on images do not definitively guarantee the product’s actual appearance, size, or physical fit on the user. Users are advised to check the seller’s size measurements, product information, and return conditions before making a purchase.
With the new features, ChatGPT is expanding AI-powered product discovery with visual try-on and favourites management, while bringing fashion, e-commerce, and digital retail shopping processes together under a conversational experience.
